What Is a Monitrice?
A monitrice is typically a licensed midwife, or other clinically trained provider who supports you during your birth journey—not only emotionally and physically, like a doula—but also through limited clinical care in labor. This includes:
-
Listening to fetal heart tones
-
Monitoring maternal vital signs
-
Providing cervical exams
-
Assessing labor progression with a clinical lens
This gentle, informed guidance provides valuable infromation and clinical assessment during labor at home.
A Sacred Blend of Skills and Support
Monitrice care is for those who want more than just clinical or emotional support—it’s for families who believe in whole-person care. It’s the gentle balance of medical knowledge and soulful presence, woven together in a way that brings safety, comfort, and empowerment to your birthing experience.
Monitrice vs. Doula: What's the Difference?
Both doulas and monitrices provide invaluable emotional support, comfort techniques, and birth preparation, the key difference is that a monitrice is medically trained to perform certain assessments that doulas are not licensed to do.
During labor, a monitrice can:
-
Help determine the best time to go to your birth location
-
Monitor your baby and body for wellbeing
-
Offer real-time, evidence-based insights that reduce guesswork
At your birth setting, your monitrice transitions into a doula role, offering non-clinical, continuous support while collaborating with your care team.
Why Choose Monitrice Support?
Peace of Mind - You’ll feel reassured knowing you have both heart-centered care and skilled clinical monitoring during labor.
Stay Home Longer - Many families prefer to remain at home to labor for as possible. A monitrice can make this safer and more comfortable option.
Informed, Empowered Choices - With a trained clinician by your side, you can make timely, confident decisions—backed by both intuition and insight.
Personalized, Loving Care - A monitrice doesn’t just assess your progress—she holds space, listens deeply, and honors your unique birth story.
